District house cleaning, involvement needed

I agree with Dick Fredericks' guest column (Jan. 9) about the Cedar Rapids school system. Also, from the district's school board on down, the system needs a total house cleaning. And teachers need to be graded on their performance in the classroom, not held in the system just because they have tenure.
True, parents need to do their job and see that the child is doing what is expected of him/her at school. That means being active in their school, and don't give me the excuse that both parents work full time. We worked full time and still were active in our children's education. That means backing the teachers when the kids are not doing what they should be doing.
There are some very capable teachers in the system but they get frustrated when they see other educators not doing the jobs they are paid to do.
