District curriculum, instruction important to Rosenthal

As a retired teacher of the Cedar Rapids Community School District, I support Ann Rosenthal's re-election to the school board. As director of vocal music at Washington High School, I had the pleasure of teaching two of Rosenthal's five children. She has always been highly involved in her children's education and concerned with the district curriculum and instruction.
Having children also attend Kennedy High School has given her a broader sense of what is happening in the schools. She is highly supportive and visible at all functions involving her children. They have achieved at the highest level academically and thrived in athletics and the arts because of her commitment.
Since 1999, Rosenthal's background as a mechanical engineer and expertise in working with the University of Iowa as associate director of facility management have served the district and board well. She has provided valuable guidance in getting funding for improving school buildings and additions. Equally important is her understanding and experience in guiding the district and UI in the 2008 flood recovery.
