Displaced workers were dedicated, team players
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Big business layoffs and closures typically dominate the headlines, deservedly so. Yet, the closure of one Cedar Rapids Sonic restaurant (on 33rd Avenue SW) is worthy for the cast of characters it displaces from the Blairs Ferry Road location.
These people, the majority of whom never strayed from their employment during the couple of years I came to appreciate them, made certain they were ready to please the customer. Pay probably wasn't great; hours likely were unpredictable. Still, they functioned as a team and had to have done well in satisfaction feedback.
I trust they'll find jobs elsewhere as they have the qualities to succeed. All fast-food franchises (and customers) should have been as fortunate as me to be associated with this group of dedicated people.
