Dismissive auditor response lacked urgency

Recently I questioned Auditor Joel Miller about the more than 500 people who believed they had voted by submitting the unclear sample ballot he mailed to every household in Linn County.

Not only was he unapologetically dismissive of my concerns, but he was condescending in his responses to me and lacked any sense of urgency in addressing this dilemma. Miller did not answer my concerns about individuals who did not include a return address; he has no way of letting them know they didn't actually vote.

Instead of taking responsibility, he is blaming voters for believing this sample ballot was the real ballot. He is blaming voters for not seeing a barely visible sample watermark; however, the top of the ballot says 'Official Linn County Ballot.”

Miller created this problematic situation and over 500 people believed they voted and we have no way of knowing if they will actually vote. This could have major implications for local races.

I am disappointed in Miller's brazen attitude about my concerns, one of his own constituents. We can't vote him out as auditor yet, but we can ensure he doesn't represent us as a Linn County supervisor.
