Deputy’s actions do not command respect

I thank those who worked so hard to bring a spectacular fireworks display to downtown Cedar Rapids. I also thank the Sheriff's Department for making my concern a priority and working to resolve the issue regarding the deputy who ruined the fireworks for my family.
And I have suggestions for the deputy:
First, it is not acceptable to gruffly tell a 7-year-old boy to put out his sparkler when he didn't know he wasn't supposed to do it.
Second, when the boy's grandfather simply asks “Why?” with no malice intended, it is not necessary to yell back at him, “You do not ask why! You just do it!” When it is evident he is trying to put it out, there is no need to yell, “I said put it out now!” and when still trying to get it out, yelling, “Stomp on it!”
My grandson was so scared, confused and embarrassed, and that broke my heart!
A uniform can command fear but respect is different. If you expect respect, you should respect others as well.
One of my sons-in-law, a marine who has served three terms in Iraq, wonders what freedoms he actually served to preserve - when his family can be treated like common criminals, we can't ask questions, no hard coolers, even off the bridge, no dogs allowed even on leashes with doo-doo bags in tow.
It makes us question the meaning of Independence Day.
