Democratic Congress has made things worse
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 16, 2011 12:12 pm
We had a budget deficit even before George Bush took office. Bush did not lead us into two wars. We were attacked by jihadist militants. At which time, Bush had a Congress that agreed to enter the war. In his last two years, when the most debt was accumulated, Bush had a Democratic Congress.
Congress has more power over federal spending than the president. Bush was in office for eight years when about $4.4 trillion more in national debt accumulated. In the almost 2 1/2 years that Barack Obama has been in office, it's about the same (with more to come). At current rates, the debt will top $23.1 trillion by 2015.
The Tea Party is a newer movement - a revival of traditional American values. They have never controlled any branches of federal government. Part of the Tea Party's belief is in a small government. The Democrats have had six years in Congress to change things. They have made things worse. Hopefully, Americans will see how much the Democrats want to “fundamentally transform America” (Obama's own words).
