Voters in most states voted for financial relief and for more control at the border, which are very realistic desires. However one has to wonder how much concern there was for such items as tax cuts for the extremely wealthy, justice for the whole community, and climate change issues.
Donald Trump has been nominating some very debatable people for cabinet positions, in fast succession. Given his great desire for power and for absolute loyalty, one could wonder if he was daring the Senate to defy him. It is well known that he humiliates those of whom he disapproves, so the pending confirmation outcomes are unpredictable.
Biographers have noted Trump's history of using fear to get what he wanted, even from childhood when he would smash others' toys as a boy.
But sadly, it appears that he is planning retribution for his perceived persecutions after the 2020 election, which he could not face losing, and for various other convictions.
He has now openly stated he intends to disrupt the way the country is run, and to undo several agreements including coordination with NATO. He also states his disapproval of well established journals and newspapers. History reminds us that such actions are those that have been used by dictators. Demanding truth is now more important than ever, so our representatives need to hear this from all constituents.
