Congratulations to Principal Steve Goodall and his McKinley staff for conducting an impressive graduation ceremony for the 2014 eighth- grade class of McKinley Middle School.
To watch this cohesive class of attractive and well-mannered eighth graders and to remember them as they were three years ago as nervous, noisy sixth graders was to witness a remarkable transformation. All students remained attentive throughout the ceremony, enthusiastically supporting their class and its outstanding achievements in the arts, athletics, citizenship and academics.
The arts programs - band, orchestra and choirs - received state-level recognition for its innovative and outstanding programs and 27 students were presented with awards for academic excellence and leadership capabilities.
On the previous day, 51 students were designated Presidential Scholars, with eight of those receiving recognition for a 4.0 GPA during their three years at McKinley.
This transformation into 182 young adults with the potential of being outstanding members of our community is directly related to the guidance of a well-trained, dedicated staff, to committed families and to the students themselves who work hard and take pride in the programs offered, in their classmates and in their school.
As a friend of McKinley Middle School, I commend you all.
