Decision on marriage shows no harm done

Jeff Jorgensen's guest column on May 20 (“Same-sex marriage essentially on ballot”) said that if Iowans had been given the chance to vote on same-sex marriage, “this issue would have already been decided, allowing the divisiveness to fade away over time, regardless of the outcome.”
This issue has already been decided - by the Iowa Supreme Court's unanimous decision in favor of equal treatment under the law. And the divisiveness is fading away, as Iowans see no harm was done. In fact, a great deal of good was done. Just ask the same-sex couples whose families have been strengthened through legal marriage.
