This November those who live in House District 66 have a choice for their state representative. I would encourage my neighbors in Northeast Cedar Rapids to choose Teresa Daubitz.
I have known Teresa for over 20 years. I worked side by side with her while in my role as a psychiatric nurse for the Abbe Center.
As a mentor for her, I was able to watch as she learned to maneuver through our legal system and work cooperatively with the Linn County Sheriff's Office with our committal process. She would spend time to help explain to individuals and families the process as well as comforting them through this emotional decision.
She has demonstrated the ability to work cooperatively with different community agencies. Her daily routine often encompassed reaching out to both of our hospitals, homeless shelters and area resources to ensure a collaborative approach for our clients.
With recent mental health legislation passed, it is important to have someone with current knowledge of these specialized needs elected.
Politics is not her passion, people are.
