Danger from doctors greater than guns
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 3, 2009 12:48 am
Since so many are weighing in on the health care debate, I thought I'd inject my opinion and needle a few people in the process.
l There are 700,000 physicians in the United States.
l 120,000 accidental deaths per year are caused by physicians.
l Accidental deaths per physicians are 0.171.
(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services)
Now consider:
? There are 80 million U.S. gun owners.
? There are 1,500 accidental gun deaths per year for all age groups.
l The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000187.
(Statistics from FBI)
So, statistically, doctors are about 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember,”Guns don't kill people, doctors do!”
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand. So, remember, eat right and exercise in order to avoid doctors, and carry your licensed gun.
Also, out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers and automobiles for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
