Swati Dandekar has been part of our family since she arrived in Iowa 41 years ago. When her husband Arvind brought Swati to the United States from India, she was readily welcomed into our family. What a delight she has been. She is compassionate and caring. It's amazing how easily she adapted to our country and became a citizen.
She carried her deep love and concern for others to the Linn-Mar School Board, to the Iowa Legislature as representative and senator, and then to the Iowa Utilities Board. She wants to share her ideas and ideals as 1st District representative to Congress. She believes in the dignity of people near and far, from different ethnicities and religions, poor and rich, immigrants and citizens, the disenfranchised to the fully integrated individual.
When Swati joined the Iowa Utilities Board, she thought long about her decision. In retrospect, it gave her a broader spectrum of experience than had she stayed in the Legislature.
I am honored to call her 'friend” and hopefully our next 1st District representative.
