Cyclists should use trails instead of roads
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 9, 2011 5:33 pm
Along country roads, one sees these yellow signs with bicycles on them: “Share the road.” Doesn't this apply to the bikers, too?
In the July 30 front page, there is a
RAGBRAI picture. Why is the second rider in that picture on the other side of the centerline? There is no need for bikers to think they are “King of the Road.” There's no need for them to take up the whole lane.
Outside of RAGBRAI, why don't riders use the bike trails instead of the country roads? Iowa has many decent, improved trails. If they continue to use the roads, why not charge them a tax or license the bikes? Help pay for those extravagant trails.
