Cuts mean further hardship
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The budget battles in Congress and the proposed severe cuts will mean further hardship for many Iowans. White House figures project:
l $1,124,016 cuts for Child Tax Credit
l $3,200,000 cuts for Head Start
l SNAP (formerly food stamps) cuts. About 418,000 Iowans receive SNAP payments - that is 14 percent of Iowans. Many of these families will not be able to feed their children (72 percent of the families receiving SNAP payments have children).
Congress must reject the idea of balancing the budget on the backs of America's most vulnerable. Please contact your congressmen to let them know what the cuts will mean for Iowans.
