CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service (CWS) and organized by local congregations and other groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Currently, well over 2,000 communities across the U.S. join in more than 1,000 CROP Hunger Walks each year.
According to UNICEF, 673 million people still do not have enough to eat. In Eastern Iowa, 1 in 6 children and 1 in 9 people struggle to put food on their table. Funding cuts to vital food programs and changes in SNAP benefits will make it harder for families to access nutritious food.
Join us in fighting hunger by participating in the Cedar Rapids/Marion CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 12, 1:30 pm at Thomas Park in Marion. 25% of the donations we raise will benefit three local food programs: Green Square Meals, Linn Community Food Bank and Churches of Marion Food Pantry. The remaining funds provide hunger relief in developing countries world-wide.
Register to walk or donate online at www.crophungerwalk.org/cedarrapidsia. Donations by check payable to CWS/CROP can also be mailed to: CWS/CROP, c/o First Lutheran Church, 1000 3 rd Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. (Please indicate organization name on memo line of check.)
Thank you for joining us to fight hunger in our world.
