COVID-19 has no political ambitions

A recent writer to The Gazette suggests that COVID-19 is the salvation of liberals and fake news. By exploiting the pandemic, vicious forces seek to destroy President Donald Trump. Where were members of the media when the virus appeared?

The emergence of COVID-19 was reported in December by print and broadcast media, and news of the first U.S. airport embargo appeared Jan. 17.

Mainstream media are surprisingly well-balanced. Most major news outlets report without bias on actual events. If the president tells the truth, that is covered; if not, that is covered, too. There are, of course, television networks - Fox and MSNBC, for example - that tend to be more entertainment or propaganda than news, and some radio hosts are just parrots for politicians.

I urge the writer to learn about COVID-19. A call to a physician or nurse could provide information about its dangers and about methods to avoid infection. I hope the writer will become informed about the deadly disease and worry less about its political implications.

Coronavirus is neither political nor journalistic. It is a real infection - a critical one. It does not respond to political or social pressure. It has no political ambitions, nor does it pay attention to the political position or status of those it infects. But it can kill once it takes up residence.
