Cost of living wage raise not beneficial

My husband and I were so glad when we heard on the news last week that we were getting a 1.7 percent (approximate) cost of living raise on our Social Security. We got out the calculator and it totaled $37 and some change. That meant quite a bit to us, a bit more for groceries.
Then the very next day in the mail we got a notice from our Medicare supplement insurance was raising our premium $29 each due to rising costs. Now we are $21 in the hole from where we started. It sure would be nice if our cost of living raise really was the cost of living.
