Corporate interests running U.S. politics

Regarding Marty Sixt's Dec. 21 column “Clear out our current politicians”: The root cause of our problems is that government has been bought out by so many corporate special interests. That's why we get legislation that benefits corporate interests instead of citizens.
Public financing of elections and prohibiting any outside money or favors is the only way this country is going to be able to have a president and a Congress that serve the interests of its citizens. Tragically, incumbent politicians will never enact such legislation.
America has been gradually heading in a dangerous direction. We may turn into Mexico, where a few wealthy people live behind guards and gates to isolate them from the starving, unemployed masses.
