Corbett kept his word, made things happen

In reference to the Feb. 14 letter titled “Accomplishments thanks to city staff, residents,” Katie Giorgio states in part that, “Anything that has been accomplished is all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the former city council members, etc.” I beg to differ. Maybe she isn't a flood victim but until Mayor Ron Corbett came into office and succeeded in getting 107 percent for the flood buyouts, they were at 100 percent of the pre-assessed flood value.
She is correct that the previous City Council and others had worked diligently for the flood victims but Corbett made it happen!
Shortly after Corbett was elected mayor in November, I publicly challenged him to indeed help the flood victims of Cedar Rapids, as he had promised in his campaign. Not only has he done that, in less than two months in office, but I have not heard him bragging that he did it alone. He has given credit to the others who have worked so tirelessly. Let's give credit where credit is due; he's doing a great job with a positive attitude toward the recovery of Cedar Rapids.
His analogy for aiming high when talking to Gazette columnist Todd Dorman may have just been an old saying between guys and I imagine was not meant to offend delicate ears. I appreciate the mayor's enthusiasm and persistence in helping Cedar Rapids recover.
