Contraceptive plan respectful of religion
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Even though a Catholic, I find the recent requirement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for most insurance plans to cover women's preventive services, including contraception, to be respectful of religions.
In accordance with President Obama's commitment that no federal tax dollars be used for elective abortions, drugs that cause abortion, such as RU486, will not be covered. Because of existing conscience protections, no Catholic doctor will be required to prescribe contraceptive pills or procedures.
And, of course, unlike China, no one will be required, directly or indirectly, to use contraceptive pills or procedures.
