Conservatives crossing line with language
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 23, 2011 11:34 am
Conservatives have a history of using racially charged language, but there has been ample evidence of over-the-top racism since an African-American was elected president. FOX and right-wing radio have walked past the line of their historically subtle racism and demonstrated outright racism. Here is some evidence.
FOX:
l Bill O'Reilly threatened to join a lynch mob to go after first lady Michelle Obama.
l Glenn Beck called President Obama a racist who hates whites.
l Eric Bolling used racist language in describing Obama and the White House.
Rush Limbaugh:
l ObamaCare is designed as reparations for blacks.
l Obama is destroying the economy to pay whites back for slavery.
Hate radio conservative commentator Neal Boortz told listeners to kill “urban thugs.”
Both FOX and right-wing radio's audience is predominately white - some, I view as already filled with hate/anger and fear. Conservatives then pour gas on a fire to gin up even more hate/distrust between their audience and any group - in this case, African-Americans.
That is how they win elections - scaring whites to vote for conservatives, even if it is hurts their economic self-interests. Aside from winning elections, they might instigate racial war. It is time for more Americans to call out their attempts to further divide us.
