Conlin will work for the middle class
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Republicans have a new “Promise to America.” They plan to lay off thousands of government workers, repeal ObamaCare, fully fund the missile program and maintain the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Several Republican candidates want to dismantle Social Security, amend the Constitution, do away with the Department of Education and rethink the civil rights bill.
Laying off workers when we already have high unemployment rate, reinstating the tax cuts and getting us into a war with Iran is not the direction we should go.
At no time in history has there been this big of a gap between the wealthy and the middle class. Since the working poor do not earn enough to pay taxes and the wealthy have tax shelters and pay congressmen to continue their big tax breaks, guess who is picking up the tab, America? The middle class is the backbone of this country and after years of Republican leadership, this group is dwindling.
Nothing will get done in the next two years if the Democrats lose their seats. My vote will be for Roxanne Conlin; she will work for the middle class, unlike Sen. Chuck Grassley who has bellied up to the wealthy.
