Congress too busy posturing
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Whatever views you may about immigration legislation, you probably agree with most Americans that something should be done. You probably also agree with an overwhelming majority who share a disapproving view of Congress.
Consider then, that of the 300 amendments tacked on to an immigration bill before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa offered 77 amendments. Do the math, more than 25 percent.
Make no mistake, this isn't about passing laws. This is about posturing, gumming up the process to score political points, carving out sound bites. This is why nothing can get done in Washington. When Grassley and the rest of the Republicans beat their chest and lament the current state of affairs (when they're not filibustering one thing or another), they should dare to look themselves in the mirror. They will be staring at the worst “Do Nothing Congress” in history.
