Congress must work to save benefits

To the editor:
For anyone who is on Social Security disability, you better be paying attention to what is going on in Washington.
The disability trust fund could be running out of money as early as 2016 and reallocation has been used 11 times to transfer money from the retirement trust fund to the disability fund. Doing the reallocation would help keep them both solvent until at least 2033, which would give Congress time to work out a fix so no one has to lose benefits.
Well, the Republicans in the House passed a new rule that reallocation can no longer be done unless there are tax increases or benefit cuts. Well, want to guess what this Congress thinks about tax increases? That leaves only benefit cuts. For all of the people who voted Republican, is this what you voted for?
With Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Joni Ernst and Rep. Rod Blum, I no longer have representation in Washington. They are not working for me.
