Compromise requires more than face-saving

Regarding the guest column by Richardt Cherwitz ('Compromise requires a face-saving environment,” Feb. 2). Above all, compromise requires that we do not permit the executive branch to force the legislative branch of our government to appropriate funds for a wall.
This is a Constitutional matter that cannot be compromised.
Forcing the legislative branch to act by shutting down part of the government is a high crime for it violates the Great Compromise, which separates the powers of the three branches of our central government.
Compromise requires much more than face-saving; it requires - first of all - that we preserve our Constitutional form of government.
