Competition has become an uneven playing field
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I love high school/college athletics, especially football, but I submit that the Iowa high school football competition across all six divisions has become an uneven playing field.
I will estimate that fewer than 10 percent of Iowa high schools are Catholic parochial. Seven of the 12 championship round teams were Catholic schools. They won five of the six divisional state championships on Nov. 21-22.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a lifetime Catholic myself, but how one-sided does it have to get before the fan majority are shaking their heads and asking, “What's going on here?”
I would like to see an independent investigation done to determine the recruiting practices of these independent schools and the prevalence of awarded scholarships/stipends that may cover their hefty tuition.
Equality for all. Ya right!
