Commuter bus is much needed

To the editor:
The Gazette editorial, which discusses the commuter bus, gives me some hope when it mentioned the potential of a round trip fare of $7 ('Visionary ideas for commuters,” Dec. 3).
If I read this correctly, the commuter bus is not isolated solely to employees, but to the public, given the possibility of a one-time fare per ride.
There is a real need for Cedar Rapids folks to be able to get to University of Iowa Hospitals. Many have no car, or are not able to easily use a car - the poor, the elderly, the frail - and access to University of Iowa Hospitals is difficult, if not impossible.
A bus, at an affordable fare, would solve this problem for many.
