Community needs Mercy aquatic center open

The possibility of Mercy Medical Center once again giving serious consideration to closing the aquatic center compels me to write this letter. I believe closing the center would be an unfortunate decision for women and men in this community. The experiences that participants have by attending classes, free swims and other activities at the center are unique and supportive for each individual. The heated therapy and lap pools allow members to gain or maintain strength, muscle tone and endurance.
Many of us who value the facility and dedicated staff are able to be proactive for our long-term health. Women and men who come to the aquatic center are committed to their health and those of us who use this facility would like Mercy Medical Center committed to being here. This is a unique example for fulfilling the Mercy Medical Center mission: “ ... to enhance the health of the communities we serve.”
I appeal to Mercy and its board of directors to consider alternatives as they address current issues of steam, profit, etc. Please continue to be advocates for the health of our community by keeping the aquatic center open.
