Commission should reconsider decision

To the editor:
Recently, I drove east on Interstate 80 and was amazed at the construction site at the junction of Interstate 74. When I inquired as to what it was I found out it was the new casino site. Upon further investigation I discovered the development agreement was an issue that caused the Davenport mayor to seek dismissal of the city administrator and city attorney.
Cedar Rapids was denied a casino after more than 60 percent of Linn County voters supported the casino. We were told our casino would cannibalize the Riverside Casino. The new casino causing issues in Davenport is being built by the same Riverside developers. Must be OK to cannibalize your own operation.
Perhaps we should ask the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to reconsider their decision based upon new evidence. We have a shovel ready project which would have major benefits to our flood recovery efforts, plus support our local non-profits.
But wait there's more. The state is supporting Coralville's proposed 7,000-seat arena with $9.5 million. Too bad the racing and gaming commission isn't in control of that so that they could protect our U.S. Cellular Center.
We need to apply for statehood.
