To the editor:
On behalf of the Cedar Rapids Medical Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District Commission, I want to thank those who attended the open house on Feb. 26 at First Lutheran Church to provide input on design standards and guidelines for the proposed Overlay District Ordinance for the MedQuarter Regional Medical District.
This is a key initiative for the MedQuarter as we can set the tone and aesthetics of a dynamic urban medical community, located in the heart of Cedar Rapids, by implementing design guidelines that help facilitate high quality development and building rehabilitation.
I invite property owners, developers, district partners and neighborhoods who were unable to attend the open house to review the materials that are available on the MedQuarter website (www.themedquarter.com) and provide us with feedback. In addition to the proposed Overlay District Ordinance, open house presentation boards and FAQs, the award-winning MedQuarter Master Development Plan is also available on the website for the community to view the overall vision.
Creating an Overlay District is one of the initiatives in the Master Development Plan which will help create a comprehensive 'MedQuarter Experience.” This experience conveys a consistent message of convenient, progressive, active and holistic health and wellness to visitors, employees and community residents. We need to take action so that we can achieve the 'MedQuarter Experience” in the years to come. On behalf of the commission, we thank you for your feedback and continued engagement in bringing this vision to fruition.
