Comics an escape, not serious news

It's come to my attention lately that several of your readers have expressed their disdain that The Gazette carries the “Millard Filmore” comic strip and they interpret the strip as a slap at some political philosophy. Well, I read the comics as an aversion to the news on the preceding pages.

I would like to point out in the March 7 Gazette, for those who take the comics seriously, that one could take “Working It Out” and “Dilbert” as a “slam” against middle and upper management business leaders. Further that “Beetle Bailey” could be derogatory against the weak -minded (Zero) and the military (Beatle, Sarge and the General - especially the general's incompetence.) Also, “Pickles” insinuations about old age. I could continue.

Suffice it to say that with the political season approaching, the comics are good reprieves as long as we view them as such and not try to read seriousness into them. Laugh with the comics or weep alone!
