Combining counties is logistical challenge

I do not know why you keep running opinions from Len Hadley (Jan. 24 guest column). He needs to visit some of counties he is trying to get rid of.
For example, the counties in the northeast part of the state are very large. Clayton County has a large Amish population around the Edgewood area and needs to have the county seat close by as do some other counties in northeast Iowa.
Sanitarians in these counties have to go all over the county issuing well permits, sewer permits and taking water tests among other things. It is at least a 45- to 50-minute drive one way from Elkader to North Buena Vista.
Also, it would require a vote from every county to get rid of a county and no residents in that county are going to vote to combine their county with another one. The courthouse is the hub of every county.
