In her article from Sunday March 30, Althea Cole had some interesting observations and conclusions about recent town halls. She first decided anyone who tried to make a point was a "leftist“ and at the Grassley town hall exhibited "leftist rage." As I watched the meeting people were asking valid questions like "Where is Congress and why are they letting the president usurp their congressional responsibilities? Not an unreasonable question considering the president has issued scores of executive orders many of which stopping funds already allocated by Congress for specific purposes.
Additionally, the president has turned loose an unvetted, unapproved DOGE team to wreak havoc in many governmental departments. No one is against improving government efficiency but the mass firings without strategy only creates chaos and fear among government workers and so far, not much savings. Why would anyone be upset? Ms. Cole also brought up Speaker Johnson's advice to avoid town halls to avoid "public berating." It is part of the job to face your constituents. She also stated that Indivisible offered to reimburse $200 each to groups for protest-related expenses. Ms. Cole brought this up as Wisconsin voters were being financially incentivized by Elon Musk to buy a judicial election. I find this a bit hypocritical.
