Closing Polk doesn’t serve minority kids

By placing Polk Elementary School kids in other schools, the kids could be forced into classrooms with at least 30 kids. This is like throwing a kid out of home and into the streets to live and to figure out how to survive on their own.
Diversity is important. As the parent of a mixed-race child I have concerns about taking my child from an ethnically diverse school into a predominately white school.
I find it interesting that the schools the district is looking to close happen to be in lower-income neighborhoods with children of color being shipped out, furthering differences.
At a time when minority dropouts are at an all-time high, I believe that enlarging classrooms and targeting minority children in Iowa will aggravate an already bad situation.
We all will be gone some day. Our positions will need to be replaced. These kids need a great education to be a better you for tomorrow. Don't take that from them.
We also need Polk Elementary year-around schooling. It helps keep kids stay out of trouble and keeps the lessons learned fresh in their minds. So, why are you closing Polk Elementary year-round success?
