Claims that President Obama cut Medicare are wrong
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 5, 2012 1:41 pm
I've been on Medicare or Medicare Advantage for more than a decade and here are my observations.
For every enrollee in a Medicare Advantage plan, the government subsidizes the Advantage company from the Medicare fund. And now Advantage companies have raised premiums for enrollees. Therefore, Medicare Advantage costs more than Medicare for both the subscriber and the government. The additional at least 14 percent cost to the government is depleting the Medicare fund faster than straight Medicare. Therefore, those people on straight Medicare should object to this “robbing” of the fund.
People who claim President Obama cut Medicare are wrong. He (ObamaCare passed by Congress) simply stopped Advantage companies from robbing the Medicare fund. I applaud that action.
