City’s projects spending leaves residents behind

Regarding The Roosevelt Hotel:
If the city is so broke, why did the city take it over in the first place? And who cares if “the rear is an eyesore for those passing on I-380?” (May 23, Gazette). It's what's inside that counts, at least that's what we tell our children when they worry about how they look. And if “big money” is spent on such frivolous concerns, what is left for the citizens of Cedar Rapids when taxes, living expenses, etc., are constantly on the rise?
Oh, I know! Another vote of the local-option sales tax. But why do you suppose it failed to go through (May 3)? I am not a member of the Tea Party. But maybe they're on the right track after all.
They say there's a limit for everything, but apparently raising taxes for Cedar Rapids citizens is not one of them.
