City should report tax money spent
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 22, 2013 10:46 am
Now that the sales tax extension has been passed and the city is guaranteed money for the next 10 years to repair streets, I think the city should report on progress and expenditures at least every four to six months. The report should be printed in The Gazette in a format that everyone can understand.
As minimums, it should contain:
l How much overall funding was taken in since the tax was approved and how much in reference to the reporting date has been spent.
l When work on street X was started, how much has been spent on X, and cost and time estimated for completion.
l When work on street Y was started, how much has been spent on Y and cost and time for completion.
l When work on street Z was started, how much has been spent on Z and cost and time estimates for completion; and so on for each work in progress.
An overall, easy to understand, financial summary chart of the street work that has been completed should also be presented.
All this material should be readily available if the street projects are being tracked like they should be.
