City council deserves acknowledgment

To the editor:

Kudos should go out to the Cedar Rapids City Council members on two counts.

The agreement to guarantee the Westdale project loan instead of loaning the money directly was a shrewd move to both keep the project moving forward and add an extra layer of financial protection for citizens. Great solution for a complicated problem with many facets to consider.

Secondly, encouragement should be extended regarding the council's consideration of the Cedar Lake project. This is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact on several fronts. It would add to recreational opportunities in a central location, could beautify Cedar Rapids in a highly visible location and has the potential to be a major draw if done correctly.

Opportunities like this don't come up very often. Congratulations for the good start on this project and let's see it to fruition.
