Church shouldn’t use government to control
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I grew up a minority protestant among Catholics and continue to count several as dear friends. Catholics are among the most upstanding, compassionate and moral people I know.
I am aggrieved when the powers-that-be in the Catholic Church feel compelled to strong-arm our government into helping the church control the behavior of its flock and save them (and the rest of us) from sin. I do not believe my good Catholic brothers and sisters need government to save them from having to discern right from wrong and act according to their religious training and beliefs.
The Affordable Health Care Act requires health insurance companies to offer medical care proven most beneficial to the majority of women and our overall health care system. No one is being forced to use contraception or any other covered medical service.
