To the editor:
On Monday, Iowa has an opportunity to set the tone and direction for the Republican Party in 2016.
On one hand, we can set a tone of fear, authoritarianism and vitriol. Several candidates espouse these feelings, none of which reflect the values that Iowans hold dear. On the other hand, there is a tone of strength, leadership and integrity that could set the stage for a Republican win in November.
Gov. Chris Christie offers the best opportunity to first win in November, and then re-establish the kind of leadership in the White House that will get things done for the American people.
Although no single job can prepare someone to be president of the United States, experience matters. We need a president who will start - on day one - with real leadership experience.
Gov. Christie has demonstrated an ability to lead; his results in New Jersey and as a U.S. Attorney are proof of that strong leadership. The 2016 presidential race can and will have profound implications on the future of the GOP.
I support Gov. Christie because his vision, leadership ability and experience are best suited to help the United States be a strong and respected world leader.
