Children watching how you’re driving
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 14, 2009 11:40 pm
We live on busy Highway 13 south of Manchester. Our children were involved in a deadly bus/truck accident that resulted in the deaths of two men, and the lives of another gentleman, a bus driver and 22 children were changed forever.
These kids are all a little more aware of their surroundings, they pay attention to what's going on both on the bus and outside the bus. They are extra pairs of eyes for their bus driver. Isn't it sad that they all witness, almost on a weekly basis, cars passing them when the bus slows to pick up its next ride, all in a hurry to get around the big yellow vehicle?
But worse, they know exactly when the red lights go on, the red stop arm goes out and a vehicle drives right by the child standing in their driveway, waiting to cross to get on that bus.
And the children, along with their driver, all work together to take down the color, make and model and even license plate of that offender. These kids are aware, but many vehicle owners aren't.
Everyone in a hurry. Please slow down, pay attention to what's right in front of your face. Those flashing red lights on a school bus mean stop. The kids are watching.
