Checking in on former dream home taxes

On Aug. 24, 2017, The Gazette published a letter from yours truly explaining how the ridiculously high property tax bill in the Linn-Mar Community School District drove us recently retired residents out of our dream retirement home in Marion.
Since then, voters approved yet another referendum for more money to feed the district's seemingly unlimited budget. Accordingly, it came as no surprise that when I researched the Linn County Assessor's website a short while ago, I observed the annual property tax bill for my former home had jumped by a full $1,000.00 in 12 months - from $4,000 to $5,000.
It's almost as if they are intent on running the elderly population on a fixed income out of town in that district.
