Changes ahead for Fifth Season race
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 28, 2013 11:37 am
The 28th annual Fifth Season 8K and 5K road races will be held in Cedar Rapids on July 4 with runners from at least 26 states taking to the streets. The Cedar Valley Running Association, the local non-profit group that provides the 250-person volunteer network and organization of the event, has made the decision to move the route of the event back to the traditional racecourse.
The 2013 races will begin and end at Greene Square Park, traveling up Third and Grand avenues SE to Bever Park and back. The race, known to some as “The Alliant Race” and others, simply “The Fifth Season Race,” will seek new sponsorship in 2014.
We would like to thank Alliant Energy for its long-term support of the race and the fitness community in Eastern Iowa. It's relatively unheard of to have one company support a race like ours for 27 years. Alliant Energy has allowed CVRA to build a great race tradition, and we are excited for this year and the years to come.
The Fifth Season 8K has truly become a Cedar Rapids Fourth of July tradition. Please consider running with us Thursday or coming down to watch before taking in the Freedom Festival-sponsored pancake breakfast downtown.
