To the editor:
I am pleased that Pope Francis, Bishop Pates and others are speaking out strongly about climate change and the need for action. Unfortunately, they have not discussed an issue that must be addressed if we want to limit climate change: diet.
We must reduce the consumption of meat and animal products. This was stated in the U.N. report 'Livestock's Long Shadow.” It is the topic of the documentary 'Cowspiracy,” which I encourage everyone to watch.
The livestock industry is devastating to the planet. This is a fact that people don't want to face, but it is the truth. If you are concerned about the environment and climate change, I ask you to begin reducing your consumption of meat and animal products.
