Challenge standards for food production

I hope this egg recall is a wake-up call. Have you watched the news and seen the unsanitary conditions these hens are exposed to, and passed onto humans? Most of America is purchasing eggs from these confinement farms.
Now, the Food and Drug Administration wants to vaccinate the chickens for salmonella. That's admirable, but why not crack down on the producers and clean up the problem where it begins? And that's just one more vaccine injected into the hens that eventually we will eat.
We used to have good food available when the farms used to be family farms. Now most of the livestock is raised in confinements. Start asking where your food comes from and how it is raised.
Visit a farmers market, buy into community supported agriculture or grow and raise your own if possible. Demand better food. It is more expensive but worth it. Is it better to pay for quality food now or large medical bills later?
