Cell phones distract from driving
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As many of you who are familiar with the west side of Cedar Rapids know, F Avenue between First Street and Ellis Boulevard NW is a one-way street. On March 7, I was stopped for a red light at Ellis Boulevard and F Ave. NW. A city pickup truck (I was not able to read the department) was proceeding toward downtown. I could see the driver was talking on his cell phone. The truck passed in front of me, made a left turn, and proceeded down F Avenue, going the wrong way on a one-way street with the driver still on his phone.
It might be a good idea for the various city department heads to have a talk with their people about cell phone usage and driving.
