Cedar Rapids should lead by example

To the editor:
The Iowa Department of Transportation/Cedar Rapids traffic camera fiasco shows Cedar Rapids' total lack of respect for state rules. IDOT needs to place a penalty for non-compliance of traffic camera rules, equal to twice the amount of collected fines. If Cedar Rapids had to pay IDOT twice the amount of what it collects on fines for improper use of cameras, not within IDOT guidelines, perhaps they would be shut down or removed as directed by IDOT or moved and placed in compliance with existing rules.
Cedar Rapids has local laws, regulations and rules it maintains all citizens must comply with or face penalty. If the folks within town would refuse to comply and/or refuse to pay associated fines for their laws/rules, Cedar Rapids would go bonkers. Cedar Rapids has only one option, lead by example and comply with IDOT orders, just as it expects local folks comply with theirs.
