Cedar Rapids seniors need to stand united
May. 9, 2010 12:20 am
Some years ago. We the taxpayers. Passed a local option sales tax. For one year. To rebuild the swimming pools here in Cedar Rapids. The city did a fine job.
Then we passed an option sales tax for the schools for 10 years. Then we had the flood in 2008. We came to bat for those affected and passed an option sales tax for four years.
Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa. And it doesn't have an adequate senior center. I suggest we the taxpayers pass a sales tax this fall to add one year to the flood tax. If it passes, we could sell bonds so we don't have to wait three years to start to build.
We seniors built Cedar Rapids to what it is today. Seniors deserve more than higher taxes. Come on, seniors, let your city and county government know where you stand.
