Cedar Rapids leaders spend too freely

To the editor:
The city just finished asking for money to support the library services without cutbacks. Now, with the property tax issue defeated, they are talking about curtailing services to six days per week to save money. However, on the news recently it was reported that the city wants to spend $2.5 million on refurbishing the old Science Station into commercial properties.
Maybe the city government needs to consider how it has spent money in the past and then they will understand why we don't want to keep feeding their coffers. They ignore institutions that have a positive impact on our community so they can pursue questionable purchases. The debt incurred for the U.S. Cellular Center has lowered the city's credit rating. Haven't they learned anything? Surely there is an investor, or group of investors, who could invest in the Science Station building and renovate it into a profitable concern.
Is it any wonder we don't trust our city leaders?
