Cedar Rapids, we can do better than a casino.
Rather than introducing something into our community that has the potential to harm, I’d rather we do something here in CR that will not only enhance our community but put us on the map.
Consider a world class indoor athletic facility with an Olympic class 300-meter flat track as its main draw? I’ve done my research and if an indoor track facility of this nature was built it would draw indoor meets from high school through collegiate level not just locally but with the possibility of being a nationwide draw.
Clearly, the same facility could be made multi use to include other sports such as soccer, football, lacrosse and a separate courts area sufficient for hosting volleyball, basketball and more.
Strength training facilities and office space for those services such as Chiropractic, AT, PT and Massage therapy. Retail space for selling clothing, gear, food and drink.
Further, if we had the right property there is no reason why outdoor activities couldn’t be added such as a high-end cross-country course for local state and regional competitions, and a football stadium with track to help take the pressure off of Kingston Stadium. We could even introduce a large banquet area for hosting events of all sizes.
This is the sort of project that has the potential to make Cedar Rapids a sought-after destination where people of all ages can be enriched.
We can do better than a casino, much better.
